Fasting for a Purpose
Learn about Fasting
We have several different biblical fasting methods you can follow to help you focus on Jesus during this time.
ABSTINENCE FAST
In this fast, we ask that you fast something that is a habitual area for you, i.e. TV, secular music, social media, etc.
"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify." 1 Cor. 10:23
DANIEL FAST
While not a fast in the truest sense of the word, this sacrifice consists of eating only a very selective diet. You are not limited to any specific amount of food, but rather to the kinds of food you can eat. The Daniel Fast is limited to vegetables (includes fruits) and water. For more info see the reverse of this card.
"In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled." Daniel 10:2, 3
FULL FAST
This is a full fast, with no food, only water, for a time ranging from the entire two weeks to a smaller portion of time of your choosing.
It is a representation of the 40 day fast Jesus did in the Gospels. This is a very powerful spiritual experience, not one to be taken lightly.
During all of these fasts, we ask that you replace that which you are fasting with prayer, meditation, family/personal worship and redemptive activities. This is about relationship, and growth, with the meaning of it all being to draw nearer to God.
Solemn Assembly
Solemn Assembly is a time of focused prayer at the church. The church will be open for anyone to come and pray from January 4th - 8th, 7 AM- 7 PM. The Sanctuary will be prepared for an atmosphere of prayer.
What is Solemn Assembly?
For those unfamiliar with this observation, a Solemn Assembly is when God’s people set aside time to come together for a holy time of focused corporate prayer, repentance and worship. This is much more than a simple hour long worship service, with Biblical Solemn Assemblies lasting anywhere from one day to 2 weeks.
An assembly would normally be observed when God’s righteous judgment was impending or during a time where a powerful move of His Spirit and power were required. During this time, the church community’s normal day to day would be adjusted to allow God an opportunity to speak and move unhindered by our pre-conceived programs or lack of focus on our part.
During this Assembly, God’s people are encouraged to enter into a time of fasting and worshiping God with all their heart. This is a season of earnest prayer, not only with time being given to intercession and meditation at the Assembly, but also with time in prayer given in preparation for this Assembly. God honors the faithful prayers of His people.
"Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD... 'Even now," declares the LORD, 'Return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.' Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity." Joel 1:14, 2:12-13
